Amazing Almenkerk

Following our previous disastrous visit to Elgin during the worst storms the region experienced - also known as Survivor Elgin - we managed to enjoy THE MOST PERFECT Round 2 visit to Almenkerk.

Almenkerk Wine Estate was the last of our 3 stops, and Joris offered us an irresistible option upon arrival: sit and enjoy the view with some wine, and then we'll do the technical tasting in the morning.

Paintings for ants

I'm not sure how I stumbled across Lorraine Loots' #365paintingsforants but it is one of the Instagram feeds that I check religiously. Lorraine posts a minuscule portrait each day, so detailed that one often forget that they are the size of a coin!

Truth be told...

Paris has never held any temptation for me.  I did not understand the fascination and warm fuzzy feelings it brings to mind, or how sensible girl's eyes glossed over with misty romance when dreaming about the city.

I don't particularly care for croissants or crepes. For the life of me, I cannot understand or follow the simplest French phrases. You would have thought the impatient French manners would have been right up my ally; instead I became tannie Emsie.

Paris was a blur of fine fashion, crumpled maps, broken sandals and suntanned shoulders.

But now I get it. Even teeming with tourists, the Sacré Coeur was one of the highlights and you cannot help but be overwhelmed with the wonder of worship.

The first two days passed without seeing the Eiffel tower, and then on the third I came out of the Metro and around the corner to the breathtaking view of this iron latticed tower.

I get it now.

One of my many holiday snaps...

Suck it up cupcake

“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
― Paulo CoelhoBrida

I've been taking Coelho's words to heart lately, taking friends up on suggestions, rambling on late into the night and debating just to play devil's advocate. Along the way some things came to light; bubbling up from the great nowhere they've been neatly wrapped up and hidden for a long time.

Now the question is: what now?

A little lost

With the best intentions to document the Loca Amiga's South African adventure, I just have not had the time or motivation to put words to paper.

Truth be told, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.

Nothing a good w(h)ine session won't cure.

Tasting the stars

During my Eurotrip last year, the Loco Amiga and I went for a tour and tasting at Moët et Chandon in the heart of Champagne.

We had our own tour guide ushering us through the 28km's of underground tunnels, recounting the family history of the world-famous champagne house and explaining the intricacies of Champagne laws.

Post-holiday blues

I'm busy with my first report the year, and dreamily gaze out of the window more often than at my computer screen.

This is where I'd rather be.
